Launch of CIS Healthcheck Service
8 March 2024
A new service designed to help hirers and employment businesses demonstrate compliance
Our new service is designed to help recruitment businesses and end hirers to show they have undertaken the necessary due diligence to ensure CIS compliance.
The healthcheck comes amid increased scrutiny by HMRC which is continuing its efforts to tackle suspected fraud in labour supply chains.
It’s increasingly important for end hirers and employment agencies using the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) to select compliant payment providers and exercising due diligence to avoid being liable for fines and penalties.
Recruitment businesses are liable for unpaid taxes and National Insurance under the Onshore Intermediaries Legislation whilst end hirers can face penalties under the Criminal Finance Act. HMRC state that end hirers and recruitment businesses should check, act and review constantly their labour supply chain. However, in our experience, even organisations with in-house specialist compliance teams can fall foul of the rules.
As the largest provider of specialist payment services to the UK construction sector, our service continually adapts to ensure we meet the strictest compliance criteria.
We are home to one of the most experienced payments teams in the industry and have built what we can safely say is the most robust system to ensure all workers are thoroughly assessed for CIS suitability, and all payments processed accurately and in line with the rules.
Furthermore, we subject ourselves to annual independent scrutiny to ensure our systems and processes keep us, our recruitment agency partners and end hirers safe.
The CIS Healthcheck Service
Our new Healthcheck will give end hirers and recruitment businesses the assurance they need to know they are operating in compliance with HMRC’s rules.
The Healthcheck is a detailed audit and results in a report and recommendations on areas of strength and weakness, enabling the organisation to address any areas of concern.
Furthermore, it enables the organisation to demonstrate its commitment to due diligence in managing supply chains which is a critical component required by HMRC.
